Was looking to upgrade my onkyo 6.1 receiver that I purchased 7 years ago. I came across this model at a local electronic store and was blown away by the sound and price.

It will decode DTS-HD Master audio and Dolby True HD. Which is important to me, because I just moved over to blu-ray and wanted the best sound possible for play back. I hooked up my new sony BDP-S570 blu-ray player and put in Avatar as a test movie. I running a HDMI cable to the Onkyo and a HDMI out to the TV. When the movie finally started, I couldn't get DTS-HD Master audio to come on the receiver. After some research you need to make sure your DVD player is not decoding the audio and sending it to your reciver to decode. Once I got this fixed and saw the DTS-HD master audio I was very impressed. My kids stopped what they were doing and came over to HEAR the movie and not just watch like last time.

Again, This Onkyo rec is a Great buy for under $300 and is also future proof for when 3D TV goes main stream in the next year of so.

P.S. Currently run my Cable box, PS3 and Blu-ray player via HDMI and all work very well with sound and picture.
Does what I need it to do

Works great!

However when I got this, the BD/DVD HDMI input port would not pass any Audio or Video. I contacted Onkyo support.

Had to do a factory reset on it... To do that, turn it off. Then hold the power/standby button then hold the VCR input button until it says CLEAR on the receiver. Then turn it back on.

Once I did the factory reset. It worked just fine.
Excellent receiver!

Believe me, I checked out all of the lower priced audio receiver that had 3 HDMI connections. I picked the best! Sound is great, seperation is great, all controls are easy to use. The remote is good. Hookup was a snap. Amazon's price was very good.Have not noticed any excess heating up.
I highly recommend this home theater receiver.
This thing does it all except rob your wallet

DTS, True HD, 3d, ARC, On screen display, HDMI thru. All I need now is all the speakers to fill out the true 5.1. It works very well with two sony ssf-5000's though. You really need to set it up right though and make sure the receiver is doing all the work and not the devices hooked up to it
Quality Receiver with Decent Price

I have this receiver for two months already, and I never have had problem or complain about it.

Talking about Power "Watts", if you like Rock or Metal music, it may not be powerful enough; but I used this to watch TV and Movies, and play games in the family room, it is really good enough for me.
Talking about Quality, the sounds is clear and beautiful, I love it. Playing PS3 game (Blue Ray disc), I can really tell it is Dolby TrueHD.
Value, with this such quality but only around 200, and it even came out this year but not few years old already, I would say the value is 5 stars.

3D ready, I am not a fan of 3D unless we no longer need to wear glasses. So I have no comments about this new feature.

I have a game room and a living room. I plan to have 7.1 in game room and 5.1 in family room. This receiver fit my requirement of the receiver in family room perfectly. Basic function with quality sound but reasonable price. If you have a media room, I would recommend a better receiver like TX-SR608, but if you have the same situation as mine, putting something basic in family room. This is definitely one of the best choices.
